One of the things listed on my itinerary in visiting Bicol was to try Bigg’s Diner. I’m so curious about what the place offers because a lot of people recommend the restaurant. A workmate shared that Bigg’s Diner is a famous food chain in Bicol serving different meals from rice to burgers, sandwiches, pasta, and many more. My first experience with the diner was on their Old Albay branch located at the back of the provincial capitol building.

Very American ambiance of the diner.

The guard welcomed me with a big smile and a crew approached me to attend my needs. American vibe inside is very evident because of the cool things on the wall. I ordered a Bicol Special Meal having a fried pork chop and the famous Bicol “laing”. I chose to dine on the second floor of the branch with an old jukebox fronting the staircases and different album covers from past hang on the wall.

Is that an old jukebox?

My late lunch: Bicol Special.

The pork chop was so crunchy and complemented with the spicy “laing” with a bunch of diced red and green chili. Not to mention that their Iced Tea is one of the best I’ve ever tried.

Dinner came and I was strolling around Embarcadero when Bigg’s Diner got my attention, again. So I immediately checked the branch and started choosing what to order. I ended up trying the Bigg’s Special with a pork barbeque, fried chicken, spaghetti and a garlic bread.

The barbeque was tasty and tender while the spaghetti was perfectly blended; not so Italian but not so Filipino. A different fried chicken can be experienced that will let you devour it to the bones. I also tried their Cookies and Cream milkshake at an affordable price of Php49.

Before leaving Albay, I had my snack at Bigg’s Diner Pacific Mall branch ordering a goto and a classic burger. It was my first time to try a goto with crushed chicharon on top.

Bigg’s main role is to fill up your big appetite.

Bigg’s Diner was established in 1983 with an American retro diner theme but with Pinoy favorite food. They offer the biggest crispy fried chicken in town, the juiciest Baby Back Ribs, and an original-blend Iced Tea. Other products offered are pasta, pizzas, salads, classic meals like Tenderloin Tips & Pork Cordon Bleu, Pinoy comfort foods like Goto, All Day Breakfasts of both American and Filipino variety and many more. The chain is now having more than 10 branches all over the Bicol Region having an interior concept varies from a branch to another.
