Microtel by Wyndham Davao, Convenience at its Best

It was drizzling when the plane from Cebu landed in Francisco Bangoy International Airport. I immediately made my way out of the terminal to the queue of people on the taxi stand. Research was the last thing I did for this trip and trusting my navigation skills won’t work. I just told the driver to bring me to Microtel by Wyndham Davao, where I’ll be spending my first night in the city.

I was hoping for the driver to be honest and take the shortest route to the hotel. Little did I know that it’s just less than 10 minutes from the airport. The hotel, on its girly light pink color, popped out on my sight. After I uttered my wish for the drizzles to stop, I handed the fare, Php 99.50, to the taxi driver.

Microtel Davao was the sixth site I’ve tried from Baguio, Tarlac, Cabanatuan, Mall of Asia, and Boracay, but it was my first time in their Mindanao locations, the other one is in General Santos.

What I always look forward to on my Microtel stays is the chiropractor beds. I don’t know but it seems that there’s a certain bliss every time I had an astounding sleep. This is actually the reason why sometimes I got too lazy to get out of the hotel and explore the tourist attractions nearby. Blame it to the chiropractor-approved mattresses, in a good way.

When it comes to competing with other accommodations in the city, Microtel’s ace is its prime location. First is its accessibility from the airport, as I’ve mentioned on the first part. In addition, SM Lanang Premier, with the SMX Convention Center as the venue for large business gatherings in Davao, is just a 5-minute walk from the hotel.

Of course, even if you’re on a business trip, you also tend to relax and this will be taken care of by their no-frill room accommodations. The hotel has 51 rooms on 3 room types: single, double and suite. All rooms are equipped with the chiropractor-approved mattresses, LCD cabled-TV, air conditioning unit, IDD and NDD phone, hot and cold shower, and a window seat.

The suite, on the other hand, has additional room features like coffee/tea making facilities, mini fridge, microwave oven, kitchen with counter sink, sofa sleeper, and bath tub.

Added perks for guests are free airport transfers, complimentary buffet breakfast, 24-hour vending area, free coffee and tea, water, newspaper, and WiFi at the lobby. Buffet breakfast was not that grand but has the breakfast staples anyone needs like soup, omelet, bread, rice and viands, as well as fresh fruits, and coffee.

Staff at the front-desk were kind enough to provide instructions and other information where the attractions can be found and the details of getting there. They even gave me a copy of the Davao City Map and Finder’s Guide. I also find the way housekeeping staff greet and smile at me every time I meet them at the hallway very endearing.

I wasn’t in Davao for business but for leisure instead. Nonetheless, I also benefited from the comforts of staying at Microtel Davao as it also caters to travelers who wanted to explore the rich culinary landscape and nature tripping Davao has to offer. And for the sixth time, Microtel Davao is indeed designed for a better hotel stay and a home away from home.
