Montenegro’s diverse landscapes and vibrant culture shine during the Great Montenegro Tour. This full-day journey offers rich experiences across nature and history. I had heard it could be tiring, but I joined anyway. It was the most budget-friendly way to explore Lake Skadar. You can check out the tour via GetYourGuide on this link.

Our meet-up was at 9 AM in Kotor Old Town. That gave us a bit more time than my earlier Durmitor trip. Once everyone arrived, we boarded the van for a 10-hour adventure that took us across mountain passes, royal towns, and quiet rivers.
Kotor Cable Car Adventure
Our first stop was the Kotor Cable Car, a must-do for any visitor. It offered panoramic views of Kotor Bay and Tivat. As the cable car climbed higher, the stunning blue waters and green mountains unfolded before us. The scenery was breathtaking.

If weather conditions affect operations, the tour takes an alternative road route. The views remain spectacular, even on that path. After the ride, I relaxed at Forza Kuk café. A warm cup of coffee helped me recharge for the rest of the day.
Lovćen National Park and the Serpentine Road
We descended from the mountains through the famous Serpentine Road, known for its hairpin curves and dramatic vistas. It felt like diving through Montenegro’s layered geography.

At Lovćen National Park, I skipped the hike to the Njegoš Mausoleum, having already visited before. The mausoleum sits atop Jezerski Vrh, honoring national hero Petar II Petrović Njegoš. Others in the group went up for panoramic views. I stayed at Vladika Restaurant nearby to enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Discovering Cetinje: Montenegro’s Royal Past
Next, we arrived in Cetinje, the country’s old royal capital. Our guide shared fascinating stories about its historical roots. At the Monument of Ivan Crnojević, we paused to learn more before choosing to explore on our own.

I walked through Cetinje’s quiet streets, admiring buildings and landmarks. I visited the Museum of King Nikola and saw the Cetinje Monastery. The town had a calm, noble charm. I also viewed the National Museum of Montenegro from outside before returning to the van.
Skadar National Park and Pavlova Strana Viewpoint
Light rain accompanied our journey to Skadar National Park. We stopped at Pavlova Strana Viewpoint to admire the winding Crnojevića River. Even with misty skies, the view was hauntingly beautiful.

Lunch followed at Restoran Stari Most, where I enjoyed steamed trout and potatoes. The riverside location added charm to the meal. It was a delicious and relaxing break.

Boat Ride Along Crnojević River
After lunch, we boarded a boat for a river cruise. A shot of rakija, the local brandy, welcomed us aboard. I sipped, then chose to enjoy the scenery instead.

As we glided down the calm waters, Skadar’s greenery surrounded us. Though we didn’t go deep into the lake, the peaceful vibe made up for it. The experience felt meditative—just me, the boat, and nature’s silence.
Chasing the Sunset in Budva
On our way back, we stopped near Budva to catch the sunset. We skipped the Sveti Stefan viewpoint since we arrived late. Still, we paused along the road to enjoy the glowing sky. Hues of orange and pink lit up the coastline beautifully.

The Great Montenegro Tour covers the country’s natural beauty and historical gems in one packed day. It blends adventure, learning, and relaxation perfectly. From the scenic heights of Kotor to the royal streets of Cetinje and tranquil rivers of Skadar, the experience is unforgettable.
