Puerto Princesa has always been my entry point to Palawan. Over the years, I explored major attractions like the Underground River, Honda Bay, and the city’s heritage sites. This time, I wasn’t here to tour again. My plan was simple. I would spend a night in the city, check out new cafés and restaurants, then head to Port Barton the next day. For that, I needed a hostel close to both the airport and van terminals.

AGODA Booking Gone Wrong
I initially booked a dorm bed at L’Artista Hostel two weeks before my trip. After landing in Puerto Princesa, I checked out some food spots, then headed to L’Artista at around 7 p.m. When I arrived, the place was in total darkness. A “CLOSED” sign hung at the gate, no one was around, and my calls to the property went unanswered. Later, I found out that the hostel had shut down ten weeks earlier, something I missed while booking.

After almost two hours on the phone with Agoda’s customer service, I gave up. I accepted a refund and compensation, but frustration had already taken over. Tired and stressed, I needed a new place for the night.
Turning to Goofy Ants Hostel
I had seen Goofy Ants Hostel in earlier searches but hadn’t chosen it at first. That night, it became my most practical option. I booked quickly through Agoda and used the Backride Pinas app, Palawan’s version of Angkas, for a motorcycle ride. The hostel signage was not large, but my rider and I still found it. By the time I arrived, it was almost 9:30 PM.

To my relief, a staff member was still awake and ready to assist. I explained my ordeal, and she handled check-in in minutes. Within five minutes, I went from being anxious to lying on my dorm bed. That efficiency was exactly what I needed.
First Impressions and Atmosphere
Goofy Ants Hostel gives off a fresh and well-kept impression. The common lounge and receiving area look clean and organized, with free drinking water near the counter. The spaces feel functional yet inviting. The staff proved helpful, answering questions about the city and suggesting things to do. With only two other guests staying during my visit, the hostel felt calm and peaceful.

One of my favorite features is the outdoor space. Beneath a large tree, there are sturdy tables, benches, and playful swings. It works perfectly for chatting with other guests or relaxing with a book. You can also order breakfast here, a convenient option before heading out.

Dorm Setup and Comfort
My assigned dorm accommodated eight people in four bunk beds. The layout was simple and designed to maximize space. For travelers like me, who only needed a clean and functional place to rest before moving on, it worked perfectly.

Looking back, my plan had been straightforward: arrive, rest, and continue to Port Barton. Instead, I encountered an unexpected detour. What began as a frustrating night with a closed hostel turned into a restful stay at Goofy Ants Hostel.
It may not have been my first choice, but it became the place that saved my evening. Its convenient location near the airport and van terminals makes it a reliable stopover. For anyone passing through Puerto Princesa, whether heading to El Nido, Port Barton, or returning from Palawan adventures, Goofy Ants Hostel offers comfort, efficiency, and a dependable base.
