PALAWAN | Grains Cafe Palawan: Plant-Based Dining in Puerto Princesa City

My morning in Puerto Princesa City started with a walk from Goofy Ants Hostel to the Baywalk. It was a refreshing spot to stretch my legs and enjoy the coastal views. Afterward, I passed by the Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral and made a quick stop at Plaza Cuartel. My plan had been to have breakfast at Bonas Chaolong, but they only open at ten in the morning. Since it was still early and I was already hungry, I searched nearby for another option. That’s when I happily discovered Grains Cafe Palawan, a plant-based café that opens by eight.

Grains Cafe Palawan is located along Roxas Street and immediately gives off a calming vibe. I had a meal at Ver De Palawan the other day, and discovering another plant-based café made me happy. The interiors look simple and uncluttered, with greenery touches that soften the space. The relaxed atmosphere makes you want to stay a little longer than planned. Their menu is impressively extensive, offering breakfast plates, rice bowls, pasta, smoothie blends, and acai bowls. For drinks, they serve coffee and non-coffee options, along with fresh juices. Prices appeared reasonable at first glance, making the café welcoming and accessible.

Sisig Bowl Experience

I ordered their Sisig Bowl, and it turned out to be a great choice. The dish came with tofu as the protein, cooked with onions, green chilis, garlic, and their own vegan mayonnaise. Unlike the usual thick mayo, theirs was lighter but still flavorful, adding depth without overwhelming the dish. The tofu was juicy rather than crisp, soaking up the seasoning perfectly. Served over red rice, the bowl also included cucumber slices for crunch and calamansi to brighten the taste. Every bite balanced savory, tangy, and fresh flavors beautifully.

For my drink, I tried the Pure Green juice, a mix of cucumber, apple, and celery. It was cool, light, and energizing, the perfect boost after my walk. A touch more apple could have made it sweeter, but I appreciated that it wasn’t sugary. The drink tasted clean and natural, exactly what you’d want under the Palawan sun.
