It started to snow when I landed in New Chitose Airport and it was both a nice and bad thing. Nice, because it will be my first winter experience; and bad, due to the fact that I wasn’t prepared for the cold weather. Luckily, ibis Styles Sapporo is just a block from one of the exits of Nakajima-Koen subway station. I swift to the hotel the moment I got out of the subway station sparing me from another frosting episode.
I’ve stayed on several Accor Hotels and one thing is always sure, the convenience of the guests is a top priority. May it be Novotel, Mercure, or ibis, booking a reservation with them will surely ease you on your travels.
Freezing temperature outdoors made me enjoy the warm atmosphere of the hotel. It extends to how the staff accommodated me on my arrival. Upon showing them my passport, they immediately searched and confirmed my reservation. Asked me to complete and sign the check-in form, and informed me that room will be available at 2 PM. Nonetheless, the staff offered to store my backpack just in case I have plans of exploring while waiting for check-in time.
I fixed my stuff at the waiting lounge and just get the important stuff transferred to my daypack. After several minutes, a front-desk officer approached all groups at the lobby, including me. She handed our keycards and informed us that rooms are now ready.
ibis Styles Sapporo has superior and deluxe rooms. Versions of superior include two single beds, two twin beds, and king bed. On the other hand, deluxe rooms have more options with two single beds, two twin beds, king bed, family, and plus 1 king bed. I got a deluxe twin bedroom and I was stunned how spacious the 33 square meter room is.
Wardrobe is on the left when you get in and big enough to accommodate all the winter clothes you’re bringing. On the opposite side is the bathroom and toilet equipped with the much-anticipated high-tech toilet complete with warm seats and bidet that are manipulated by a panel controller. A bathtub is a major plus and shower essentials are Shiseido brands. Toiletries included are dental kit, shaving kit, body sponges, combs, and cotton buds and pads.
In addition, a living room with the television, couches, and center table still fit inside. Moreover, a spacious working desk is perfect for business travelers. There’s also a humidifier to maintain and add moisture to the air. Before I forget, the room has a fridge and a coffee and tea making facility with bottled waters being replenished daily.
Breakfast included on the room rates are served buffet style at Sapporo Kitchen on the second floor of the hotel. The buffet breakfast starts at 6 in the morning until 10:30 to accommodate guests who wanted to sleep until late morning. I love how the buffet spread introduce local dishes and ingredients despite the brand having an international concept. You can savor the unique flavors of Hokkaido by enjoying the breakfast that ibis Styles Sapporo offers.
Some of the food I enjoyed during my 3-day buffet experience are the mackerel, tamago (fried egg), fried lotus stem, miso soup, and the Hokkaido yogurt. To accommodate the western taste, they offer sausages, ham, and bacon and lots of bread. Several beverages such as coffee, milk, and juices are also available.
Facilities and Amenities
In terms of hotel facilities, ibis Styles Sapporo recently opened their fitness center on the ground floor, just approach the front-desk if you need assistance. Furthermore, a web corner that guests can use for online searching and travel booking, free of charge, is on the rear side near the main entrance of the hotel. Vending machines are located on several floors but for a varied option, the hotel is connected to the Lawson convenience store on the ground floor.
Additional services they can do for you are safe services for your valuable items, and luggage storage services until check-out. On top of that are postal and delivery services (charges may apply) and laundry services. Wi-Fi is free in the entire hotel and LAN cables are available in all guest rooms. They also offer handy, a smartphone integrated mobile device that provides hotel amenity features both for guest and hotels. Guests are allowed to bring the unit outside of the hotel and can provide search capabilities and Google map for directions.
My stay in ibis Styles Sapporo is another testament on how consistent this hotel chain in terms of providing a seamless and stress-free accommodation to every guest who checks in to their hotel. ibis Styles Sapporo’s accessibility to transportation networks, food strips, shopping malls is also an added bonus.
