Going to and out of Mactan Cebu International Airport is one of my major challenges every time I need to utilize the airport for my travels. There are several options but you need to shell out a bit from your budget; more cash to spare relates to convenience. Rent-a-car services are available just at the doorsteps of the arrival area while airport and regular cab’s lane is located few meters away.
For solo travelers or groups who need to stick with their budget, a cheaper way, but the most stressful one is to utilize the jeepney from the airport to Marina Mall (nearest mall in the airport). These vehicles are stationed at the far left of the gates for international departures. It will only cost you Php7 from the airport to Marina Mall and from there; you can transfer to another jeepney bound to Mandaue City; ParkMall, Hi-way, JCenter etc. For you to get to Cebu City proper, from the mentioned landmarks, you’ll need again to take another jeepney to the city. For around Php21 (Php7 per jeepney ride), you will get to your destination, and also inhale all pollutions on major roads of Cebu.
HERE’S THE GOOD NEWS. Before 2015 ends, SM did a trial in servicing SM City Cebu and Mactan Cebu International Airport. The pilot study probably went well because early this year, SM MyBUS now regularly connects the two destinations. What’s great is that the bus ride will only cost passengers for Php25.
Â
The rate is a bit higher than the Php21 jeepney rides but riding the bus provides comforts with its cushioned seats, air-conditioning, and GPS tracking. When you’re heading somewhere north of Cebu, the bus also stops at North Bus Terminal. SM MyBUS terminal is located at SM City Cebu’s parking lot, near Radisson Blu Hotel while the bus is stationed on the far right of the arrival area, near Jollibee store.

The SM MyBUS requires a tap-card, a reloadable card you can use to pay the fare. The card can be used multiple times per ride just in case you have other people with you. You can also pay in cash but I heard they will start implementing the card-only payment system soon. As to when, it’s better to ask their staff at the booths.
SM MyBUS cards are available at their stations in the airport as well as in the terminal. You can avail the card at Php200 that is already preloaded with Php100. Sometimes, new cards come with free one ride stub. I heard from a friend that per ride using the card entitles you a point that you can use to avail some perks being offered by SM Malls.
